What Is NAD+?

NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in every cell. Your body uses it in energy metabolism and in many other basic cell processes. Its levels tend to fall with age, and that’s why NAD+ has drawn interest in wellness and longevity care.

That interest is ahead of the research. Human studies of NAD+ for wellness are still limited. For shots in particular, no published human study has measured how well NAD+ given under the skin is absorbed, what blood levels it reaches, or its health outcomes. NAD+ is not FDA-approved to treat any condition. We treat it as one optional part of a broader plan, not a stand-alone fix, and results vary from person to person.

NAD+ is offered as a wellness service, and your provider will explain what is and isn’t known before you decide.

NAD+ Injections vs NAD+ IV: Two Options

Both options skip the digestive system. The difference is time, cost, and how the NAD+ is given. Newport MD offers both.

When a shot may make more sense: you want something quick and affordable, you’re short on time, or you’d rather not sit for an IV.

When an IV may make more sense: you also need fluids, or your provider recommends IV for you.

Not sure? Your provider can recommend a shot, an IV, or neither. See Vitamin Injections for our other shots and the full shots-vs-IV comparison.

What a NAD+ Injection Visit Is Like

  1. Free 30-minute consultation. In person or by phone. We go over your goals, health history, and medications, and decide together whether NAD+ makes sense for you.
  2. Your shot. A provider gives the injection into the muscle or under the skin. There’s no IV line, and most visits take 5–10 minutes.
  3. Your schedule. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Your provider will recommend a schedule based on your goals and health history.
  4. Part of a bigger plan, if you want one. NAD+ can sit alongside blood testing, peptide therapy, hormone optimization, or medical weight loss, depending on what’s right for you.

Some people notice brief soreness, redness, or warmth where the shot was given. Tell your provider about anything that concerns you.

Who NAD+ Injections May Not Suit

NAD+ isn’t right for everyone. Talk with your provider first, and NAD+ may not be a fit, if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are under 18
  • Have a serious or unmanaged medical condition, including cancer or heart, liver, or kidney disease, that hasn’t been reviewed by a provider
  • Take several prescription medications or supplements (bring the list to your consult)
  • Are hoping NAD+ will treat a specific disease. It isn’t approved for that, and the evidence doesn’t support relying on it.

Fatigue and brain fog have many causes, including iron, B12, thyroid, and hormone levels. Blood testing can help check those first.

What's the difference between a NAD+ shot and a NAD+ IV?

A shot is a single quick injection during a 5–10 minute visit. An IV delivers NAD+ through a line in a vein and takes longer in a chair. Newport MD offers both, and your provider can help you choose. Ask us for current IV pricing.

Is there good evidence for NAD+ injections?

Evidence is limited. NAD+ is a coenzyme your cells use for energy metabolism, but no published human study has measured how well NAD+ given under the skin is absorbed, what blood levels it reaches, or its health outcomes. We treat NAD+ as one optional part of a broader plan, not a stand-alone fix.

Is NAD+ FDA-approved?

NAD+ is not FDA-approved to treat any condition. Your provider will review your history before recommending it and explain what is and isn't known.

Who should not get NAD+ injections?

NAD+ may not suit you if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have a serious medical condition that hasn't been reviewed by a provider, or are under 18. Tell your provider about all medications and supplements you take. Your provider decides whether it's appropriate.

Yes. Newport MD accepts HSA and FSA payments. We don't accept insurance.

Do I need a consultation first?

We start with a free 30-minute consultation to review your goals and health history and decide whether a NAD+ shot, an IV, or neither makes sense. Book at newportmd.com/book-a-consultation/.
