Wellness Starts Within
Oxygen, Ozone, and Your Blood: A Whole-Body Approach to Feeling Your Best
Busy schedules, stress, hard training, and the simple passage of time can leave you feeling run down. At Newport MD, we look for ways to support your body from the inside out. EBOO is one of the more advanced wellness therapies we offer. It works with your own blood, in a closed and carefully monitored system, and is designed to complement the rest of your health plan.
What Is EBOO Therapy?
EBOO stands for Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation and Ozonation. “Extracorporeal” simply means “outside the body.” During a session, a portion of your blood is drawn, passed through a specialized filter, and exposed to a precisely controlled mixture of medical-grade oxygen and ozone. The blood is then returned to your body through a separate line.
Everything happens in a sterile, closed circuit, so your blood never contacts open air. A typical session takes about 1 to 3 hours, depending on the volume of blood processed and the plan your provider recommends.
How an EBOO Session Works
- IV access. A clinician places two small IV lines, usually one in each arm.
- Drawing and filtering. Blood flows out through one line into a sterile, single-use circuit and passes through a specialized filter. A small amount of anticoagulant is typically used in the circuit to keep blood flowing smoothly.
- Oxygenation and ozonation. Inside the circuit, your blood is exposed to a controlled blend of medical-grade oxygen and ozone.
- Return. The processed blood flows back into your body through the second line. This cycle continues for the length of your session while our team monitors you.
Take control of your health with clarity and confidence
Who May Benefit From EBOO?
EBOO is designed for adults who want a proactive approach to how they feel day to day. Depending on your health history and goals, EBOO may support:
- Overall energy and vitality when you feel run down
- Healthy circulation and oxygen delivery
- Recovery for active adults and athletes, as part of a broader performance plan
- A sense of mental clarity and focus
- Your existing wellness plan, alongside hormone optimization, peptide therapy, or vitamin injections
Some patients report feeling more energized or refreshed in the days after a session, while others notice little change. Everyone responds differently, which is why every EBOO plan at Newport MD starts with a consultation.
A Personalized Approach
At Newport MD, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all wellness. Before recommending EBOO, we take time to understand your symptoms, lifestyle, medical history, and goals. Where it makes sense, EBOO can be one part of a larger plan that may include blood testing, hormone optimization, peptide therapy, or vitamin injections.
What to Expect
Before Your Session
- Consultation first. You’ll meet with a Newport MD provider to review your health history, medications, and goals.
- Lab work. Your provider may order blood work before your first session, which may include G6PD screening and a blood count.
- Hydrate. Drink plenty of water the day before and the morning of your session.
- Eat a meal. Have a light, balanced meal one to two hours beforehand.
- Dress comfortably. Wear loose sleeves that roll up easily above the elbow.
- Ask about medications and supplements. Your provider may give you specific guidance. Never stop a prescribed medication without talking to your provider first.
During Your Session
- You’ll relax in a comfortable chair while the session runs, typically about 1 to 3 hours.
- Most people feel only a brief pinch when the IV lines are placed.
- Our team monitors you and your vital signs throughout.
- Many patients read, listen to music, catch up on email, or simply rest.
- Let us know right away if you feel lightheaded, cold, or uncomfortable.
After Your Session
- Most patients return to normal daily activities the same day.
- Some people feel energized; others feel tired and prefer an easy evening. Both are common.
- Keep drinking water and eat a nourishing meal.
- Minor bruising or tenderness at the IV sites is possible and usually fades within a few days.
- Your provider will follow up to discuss how you felt and whether additional sessions make sense.
- Contact us or seek medical care if you notice anything unusual or concerning.
Is EBOO Right for You?
EBOO isn’t right for everyone. A consultation with a Newport MD provider is required before your first session. Your provider will review your medical history, current medications, and lab results, and will decide whether EBOO is appropriate for you.
Certain conditions may make EBOO inappropriate, including:
- G6PD deficiency
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Certain bleeding or clotting disorders, or use of some blood-thinning medications
- Uncontrolled hyperthyroidism
- A recent heart attack or stroke
- Severe anemia or very low blood counts
- Known allergy or sensitivity to medications used during the session, such as anticoagulants
This list is not complete. Be sure to tell your provider about all health conditions, medications, and supplements. As with any procedure that involves IV access and handling blood outside the body, EBOO carries risks, which may include bruising, lightheadedness, fatigue, vein irritation, or, rarely, infection at an IV site. Your provider will review the potential risks with you so you can make an informed decision.

EBOO Frequently Asked Questions
What does EBOO stand for?
EBOO stands for Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation and Ozonation. “Extracorporeal” means outside the body. During a session, a portion of your blood is drawn, filtered, and exposed to a controlled mix of medical-grade oxygen and ozone in a closed circuit, then returned to your body. It is designed to support overall wellness as part of a personalized plan.
How long does an EBOO session take?
Most sessions take about 1 to 3 hours. The exact time depends on the amount of blood processed, your comfort, and the plan your provider recommends. Plan for a little extra time for check-in, IV placement, and a short rest afterward.
Does EBOO hurt?
Most people feel a brief pinch when the IV lines are placed, similar to a routine blood draw. During the session, many patients relax, read, or rest. Some report a cool sensation in the arm or mild tingling. Our team monitors you throughout, and you can tell us at any time if you feel uncomfortable.
How many EBOO sessions will I need?
There is no single number that fits everyone. Some patients choose a one-time session, while others follow a series spaced over weeks or months. Your provider will discuss options based on your health history, goals, and how you respond after your first session.
Is EBOO right for everyone?
No. EBOO is not appropriate for everyone. Certain conditions, such as G6PD deficiency, pregnancy, some bleeding or clotting disorders, uncontrolled hyperthyroidism, or a recent heart attack or stroke, may make it inappropriate. A consultation with a Newport MD provider is required, and your provider decides whether EBOO is a fit for you.
Is EBOO FDA-approved?
No. EBOO is not FDA-approved to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. At Newport MD, it is offered as an elective wellness service after a consultation. Individual experiences and results vary.
Ready to See If EBOO Is Right for You?
The best way to know is to start with a consultation. We’ll review your goals and health history, answer your questions, and help you decide whether EBOO fits your plan.
